چکیده

Abstract Accurate reorganization of harvested species is essential for appropriate fisheries monitoring but often unnoticed. In this study, an attempt was made to provide accurate description based on fish taxonomy and otolith shape parameters nine sea catfishes living in Pakistan. The lapillus, the largest catfishes, includes position umbo, structure anterior mesial projection (amp), incisura linea basalis (ilb) sulcus lapilli marks (slm) ariid were evaluated. Discriminant function analysis performed using twenty-two morphometric showed significant variations between length maxillary barbel, adipose preorbital length, which highlighted as basic discriminating characters. Species without barbells, such Batrachocephalus mino Osteogeneiosus militaris , found be distant. taxonomic characters genera Netuma Plicofollis overlapped due a short fin length. Nevertheless, Arius arius Sciades sona Nemapterxy caelatus differed moderate bilineata has rounded snout, while N. thalassina long pointed distinguishing characteristic both species. coincident use effective tool catfish identification could helpful sampling programs management Pakistan whenever implemented.

Bacteria on closed-boll and commercially harvested cotton.

The bacterial content of specially treated cottons used by other investigators to test human pulmonary responses to cotton dust was examined. Cotton from Lubbock, Tex. and Stoneville, Miss. were either (i) harvested by machine and handled as commercial bale cotton, (ii) harvested as closed bolls with bracts intact and opened under special conditions, (iii) harvested as closed bolls, with bracts...

Disentangling fluctuating asymmetry from otolith shape

Fluctuating asymmetry (FA), defined as random deviations from ideal, perfect symmetry, has been hypothesized to be negatively associated with fitness and positively associated with stress. Fish otoliths deserve special attention in regard to this topic because their FA is relatively easy to measure, unlike the fitness of wild fish themselves. In addition, otoliths are convenient for estimating ...

Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis of Essential Oil of Arabian Jasmine (Jasminum sambac) Flowers Harvested from Pothohar Region of Pakistan

The essential oil extracted by n-Hexane solvent extraction and hydro-distillation of Arabian jasmine flowers collected from Pothohar region was analyzed by GC/MS. Concrete oil recovery on fresh petal weight basis was 1.78 g (0.17%) and absolute oil recovery from this concrete was 0.09%. Essential oil recovery in hydro-distillation was 0.08 g (0.008%). The colour of absolute oil was very light b...

Feeding history influences otolith shape in tropical fish

The influence of feeding history on otolith shape and symmetry was examined in juveniles of 2 species of coral reef fish, Amphiprion akindynos and Pomacentrus amboinensis. Fast Fourier analysis was used to describe the shape of otoliths of fish from a variety of experimental feeding treatments, ranging from starvation, through pulse feeding, to feeding ad libitum. The resulting harmonics from b...
